Elin Thompson
Born February 12, 1893 — Died November 18, 1953
On November 18, 1953, Mrs. Elin
Thompson passed away at the
home of her brother-in-law and
sister, Mr. and Mrs John Finnbo-
gason of Langruth. She had been
in poor health for several years
and hospitalized frequently. Final-
ly her wish was to be at home and
patiently await the inevitable with
her loved ones near her. To make
it more convenient for her sister,
who so lovingly attended her, she
consented to be moved from her
own home on the farm at Big
Point a few weeks previous to her
passing.
Elin was born on February 12,
1893, near Baldur, Man., and with
her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs.
David Valdimarson and older brother John and sister Kristlaug
(Laura Finnbogason) came as a child of two to this district, then
known as Wild Oak P.O. She attended Big Point School and was
an apt scholar in spite of irregular attendance on account of
distance, bad roads and seasonal floods. In later years the same
aptitude, determination and practical knowledge made her a suc-
cessful homemaker and clever craftswoman.
As a young girl she was employed in Winnipeg and Chicago,
at dressmaking, but after the death of her mother in 1925 and until
her marriage to Johann Arnor Thompson on October 20, 1937, she
kept house for her brothers John and Valdimar.
Mrs. Thompson was a staunch member of the Lutheran Church
and Ladies Aid, and supported all community efforts in her quiet
unassuming way.
Rev. V. J. Eylands conducted the funeral service on Saturday,
November 21, and burial was made in Big Point Cemetery.
