5.3 Alexanders saga
Recently I have started work on a morphological analysis of Alexand-
ers saga by establishing a machine readable transcription. A search
through this file came up with 79 mót expressions, which are divided
as follows:
(2) á mót 2 í mót 42 í móti 21 mót 1 móti 12 til móts við 1
The 2 examples with á are found together very near the beginning of
the manuscript. Mót and móti are found in the latter part of the manu-
script.
6. Conclusion
I hope to have shown in these comments that studies of the kind
represented by Jón G. Friðjónsson’s article in íslenskt mál 21 can be
done more thoroughly if one makes use of some of research tools that
have been made available to those who want to study the history of
Icelandic. In addition, it is necessary to select a representative sample
of texts and pick the most reliable editions of these.
