THE SOURCES OF SPECIMEN LEXICI RUNICI 87 ascribed to Víga-Glúms Saga, and these are taken from Ögmundar Þáttr Dytts (ÓTM II 1—18). All these sagas are mentioned in the list of sources.48 The manuscript which was used for these quotations was one deri- ved from AM 61 fol., which is the principal MS of the saga, and the one used as the hasis of the editions. There are at least three paper MSS of the saga derived from this vellum and although none of them are old enough to have been used hy Magnús, they are all clearly closely related to the one he used. These MSS are: St. Papp. 4to no. 19 (“Skrifud af Sigurde Jonssyne Adt Sualbárde ...1667”). Lbs. 1407 4to (ca. 1680, “úr safni Jónatans Þorlákssonar í Þórðar- stöðum í Fnjóskadal”). B. M. Add. 11, 125 (also from the 17th century). It will he noticed that two of these MSS are connected with dist- ricts in the north of Iceland close to the home of Magnús Ólafsson. The following selection of readings from these MSS is sufficient to show lliat they and the MS used by Magnús are all derived from the same copy of AM 61 fol.: 76 Lokatur: Frekur giet eg þeim þike lokatur minn til fiegiallda um slijk stor- mal. — AM 61 has lokarr, but 11,125 has lokaðr, and 19 and 1407 have lokatr. 141 Vijte: Nu skulu vid satter og þo þig hend vijte, ad þu komer ej til Bords eda annad slijkt sem adrer menn þa skal þier upp giefa framar 0drum flest- um. — AM 61 has “til borðs eða kirkju sem aðrir menn eða annat slíkt,” but the paper MSS all have substantially the same as SLR. 4 Afrendur ail ajli:_hann var bædi mikill vexti ... — AM 61 has mikill maðr vexti, hut all three paper MSS omit maðr. 96 Ofrijnn: SLR and the paper MSS agree in having “ófrýnlegan og daprleg- an,” while AM 61 has “úfrýnligr ok daprligr.” 63 Kijr: ... þötte honum heilsusamligt ad drecka miolk hennar ... — 11,125 and 19 have “þótti honum heilsusamligt at drekka mjólk hennar,” and 1407 has “þótti honum heilsusamligt at drekka mjólk kýrnar,” but AM 61 has “þótti honum heilsamligt at drekka jafnan mjólk hennar.” 48 Although Magnús Ólafsson took the quotations from Óláfs Saga, he must have also known other MSS of all these sagas he names.
