NBD is an abbreviation for Nordisk
Byggedag (Nordic Building Day),
which is an Inter-Nordic organization
where all aspects of architecture and
building industry are studied and dis-
cussed. In each of the five participat-
ing countries the members are re-
presentatives of organizations of
trades, business, the building indust-
ry, engineers, architects, municipali-
ties and the government.
Visitors from Finland, Denmark,
Norway and Sweden are expected to
be 7—800 and 200 from Iceland.

Referring to a report in Vol. 12, No.
4—5, 1965 of Iðnaðarmál regarding
a work study agreement between the
organizations of labour and employ-
ers and the graduation of the first
seven rationalization consultants in
Iceland to be employed by these
organization, Mr. Bjömsson reports,
that six new rationalization consul-
tants were graduated on 9th Decem-
ber 1967 after one years intensive
training in Norway, Denmark and
Iceland. Mr. Bjömsson welcomes this
new trend in management—labour
relations.

sociation.
The author explains very thorough-
ly the reasons that led to Operations
Research or how science had to
develop a system to solve the prob-
lems, that science had created in
operation and management of big and
complicated modern enterprises.
Then he explains what Operations
Research is and gives examples of
how it is applied in practice.

on the world production of some
metals and salts extracted from sea
water and the quantity and value of
some of them in 100 tons of sea
water.
The basic factors for an economical
operation of such an industry in Ice-
land is the abundance f geothermal
energy and hydroelectrical power in
the country together with easy cool-
ing.
