Skekkjur. Árin 1994—1997 var aðeins spurt um fæðingarár annarra heimilismanna. Nánari upplýsingar um fæðingardaginn eru þó nauðsynlegar til að finna réttan fjölda heimilismanna á aldrinum 16-74 ára. Til að vega á móti þessu var fjöldi þeirra fundinn með því að láta hendingu ráða hvort afmælisdagurinn væri liðinn eða ekki. Þessi aðferð eykur lítillega skekkjumörk niðurstaðna fyrir þessi ár en gefur hins vegar mun betri mynd af öðrum þáttum, s.s. aldurssamsetningu. Vogir. A child in a household is any person younger than 25 years of age who is living with one or both of his or her parents. Couples with children who are all 25 years or older are therefore classified in “Other households”. Coverage. Since the sample in the labour force survey only covers people aged 16-74, private households with no member under the age of 75 cannot be described. As far as can be discovered there were 8,114 such households in 2002. Errors and corrections. In the years 1994-1997 the respondents were only asked about the year of birth of each of the other members of the household. However, further information on the date of birth is necessary to determine correctly the number of persons in the household who were aged 16-74. To adjust for this, their age was found by randomly determining whether or not the birthday had passed. This method increases the margins of error slightly for the results from those years, but provides a far better description of other factors such as age distribution. Weightings. The ILFS only asks questions about other household members once a year. Allowance must be made for the fact that the greater the number of household members aged 16-74, the more likely one of them is to be selected for the sample. Annual figures for the number of households are therefore estimated by inflating the survey figures through the following proportion: 0Yl L ^ Proportion 8.1 where V is the weighting for the involved participant i according to proportion 10.1 and h is the number of household members aged 16-74. This proportion must be multiplied by 2 since questions on other members of the household are only asked in April. Further details on concepts and methodology are found in Chapter 10: Synopsis of methods and concepts.
