213. Quite often a stroke has been placed over a
consonant which cannot be doubled, as over the
initial nasal in nidr 168, nv 1615, 189, 1918, medann
202 etc., or over a consonant already doubled, as in
svtl 278, þiggr 337.
The scribe is not consistent in his declension of
latinised personal names. In general, feminines in -a
and masculines in -us follow the Latin first and second
declensions. The feminines have the following oblique
forms: voc. Gira 441, acc. Feritram 1614, 619, Grecam
1415, 249, 619, gen. Gire 568, dat. Gire 6311, and there
are also the accusatives Feritram and Grecam after
til 569. Irregular are voc. Giram 472 and the unde-
clined Feritra after heilsa 910, Greca after samrekkja
2017. The masculines have voc. Alane 657, but Lejrnn
98, Lep -\- -us symbol 644, acc. Lepum 95 _6, Maritvm
426, and Alanum 415 Alanvm 549 after til, but Frank
+ -us symbol 426, Lep 4- -us symbol 619, gen. Priami
627, but Alan -us symbol 405, Frank -f- -us symbol
709, dat. Alano 404 Alanno 468, Marito 338, 3411, but
Alanvm 355, L -f- -us symbol (= Lepvs) 182.

Vowels. Vowel lengths are not indicated, save by the
occasional use of special symbols or double letters,
as reas 809, ræ.(dj 8510, blodmr 882, fæz 8817, fee 9010.
(a) in stressed syllables.
a. vá is always rounded to vo in suo 786, 7918, 8012 etc.
C7-umlaut of a is commonly written o, as in fogr
782, 7918, odrum 7913, but av is used in avr 8310, 8618,
tavlv 906.
e. e is usually diphthongised to ei before ng, as in
feingit 772, feingu 826, eingi 8217, 8318, streingi 8420.
e remains in engu 775, enguan 81n.
e remains before gj in segia 7811.
e' is spelt e in se 773, 8918, tresmidum 7812, letu 887,
