where it differs from Flat’s) l11 þessa mals] as Flat
{þessarar sago), l12 sonur] son, l16 Silki sif ] Ellisif, l16
Haka dottur] dottur Jarisleifs kongs, l17 hann] en, 215
kongur] as Flat (hann), 1332 vinna] + s(eigir) Hemingur,
1522 hann tok] tekur (tekr hann).
The existence of *s is indicated by the agreement of ÍB
384, Lbs 1681 and MS Bor 45 against 355 and 670 in
about thirty instances, e.g. (first Flat’s reading, then
the reading shared by the three MSS) 221 22 margt—manna]
4-, 830 iiii] vi (NB 355 has fióra), 1029 hvern veg] hvernig,
1522 eikina] eik eina, 2520 kongur] -F, 2826 mikel] nockr.
Finally the existence of % is indicated by the agree-
ment of Lbs 1681 and MS Bor 45 against the other three
MSS in over 100 instances, e.g. (Flat’s reading followed
by %’s with the reading of the other MSS in brackets
where it differs from Flat’s) l14-15 hann—Noregi] after
dottur (1. 16), 320 þath Iata] inverted, 418 af] ad, 434 kiosa]

flaug] for, 1825 hlifaztt] hafaz, 1926 dafnadiztf] dafnar
(dafnade), 2422 tyglum] tigli. That Lbs 1681 and MS Bor
45 are independent copies of % and not copied from
each other can be seen from about 30 readings where
they disagree, e.g. (Flat and 45 followed by 1681) 432 þui]
hui, 1621 hid] -F, 2229 s(eiger)] svarar, (Flat and 1681
followed by 45) 229'30 áí—land] +, 718 vær] + og skulum
vœr, 1631 kyr] + fyrer.
Lbs 670 has about 50 readings which it does not share
with any other of the MSS in the Y group, e.g. 310 fund
kongs] inverted, 1215 nv] +, 2324 snyrr] + nu, and there
are occasional cases where 670 agrees with one or more of
the other MSS in the group against 355, e.g. 1515 ath]
eg (as 45 and VWZ), 2321 kongur] hann (as 1681, 45),
2520 kongur] (hann 355) sic (as 45), 2825 verá] verda (as
1681), but these are to be explained as chance agree-
ments. In about 15 instances ÍB 384 stands alone in its
