Vorferð 2017 6. Viðhald fastra jarðskjálfta- og GPS mælistöðva Veðurstofu Íslands á ýmsum jökulskerjum. Upp- setning þriggja tímabundinna jarðskjálftamælistöðva sunnan og suðaustan í Bárðarbungu, til nákvæmari ákvörðunar á dýpi jarðskjálfta í og við Bárðarbungu, en þar hefur verið viðvarandi jarðskjálftavirkni frá því fyrir eldgosið í Holuhrauni 2014–2015. Þá var sett GPS mælistöð í eystri Skaftárketilinn sem nú safnar vatni, auk endurvarpa á suðurbrún Bárðarbungu til samskipta við mælistöðina og einnig skjálftamæli á Bárðarbungu. 7. Nokkur hundruð km GPS yfirborðssnið voru mæld í Grímsvötnum og á Bárðarbungu, m.a. til að fylgjast með breytingum í jarðhitakötlum á báðum stöðum. Þá voru fastpunktar í Esju, Vetti og Húsbónda mæld með landmælinga GPS tækjum til áframhaldandi vöktunar á jarðskorpuhreyfingum. 8. Þátttakendur í ferðinni: Anna Líndal, Baldur Bergsson, Bergur H. Bergsson, Eiríkur Finnur Sigursteinsson, Carl Olof Eric Sturkell, Eyjólfur Magnússon, Finnur Pálsson, Gunnar Gunnarsson, Gunnar Kristinn Björgvinsson, Hann- es H. Haraldsson, Hlynur Skagfjörð Pálsson, Ingibjörg Ei- ríksdóttir, Katla Sigríður Magnúsdóttir, Mariel Dirscherl, Melissa Pfeffer, Rebecca Robinson, Sjöfn Sigsteinsdótt- ir, Talfan Barnie, Vilhjálmur Kjartansson, Þorsteinn Ca- meron, Þorsteinn Jónsson, og til mánudags einnig: Birgir Hrafnkelsson, Daniel Ben-Yesoshua, Giri Gopalan, Herdís Schopka, Joaquin Munos Belart, Magnús Tumi Guðmunds- son og Rögnvaldur Líndal Magnússon. Farartæki: Ford JÖRFÍ (Jöklarauður), Snjóbíll HSSR, Toyota Hilux JH, FORD VÍ, FORD Magnúsar Þórs Karls- sonar, þrír vélsleðar JH og fjórir vélsleðar VÍ. Um helgina var líka bílaleigubíll (Toyota Hilux). The 2017 Spring Expedition The annual JÖRFÍ expedition to Vatnajökull 2017 took place June 2 to 10. Participants were volun- teers of the Iceland Glaciological Society, scientists and technicians from the Institute of Earth Sciences University of Iceland and Iceland Meteorological Of- fice, students from the University of Iceland, Uni- versity of Gothenburg in Sweden and members of HSSR rescue team, in total 29 people. Two for- eign film crews of 7 people stayed with the expedi- tion the first two days. Most of the work was con- ventional: mass balance measurements, GPS profil- ing, setup of automatic weather station on Bárðar- bunga, maintenance of permanently installed GPS and seismic instruments, static GPS survey, investiga- tion of Grímsvötn recent eruption sites, maintenance of buildings and instruments on Grímsfjall. Addi- tional work included setup of an automatic weather station on Skeiðarárjökull and the survey of surface topography of Grímsvötn eruption sites and eastern Skaftá cauldron with terrestrial LIDAR. Over 500 km of radio echo sounding (RES) profiles were surveyed south of the Skaftár cauldrons to increase detail in bedrock maps. RES profile survey was repeated (first in 2014) in the eastern Skaftá cauldron, and the same profiles were also surveyed with 50 MHz radar to in- vestigate internal structure of the ∼100 m top layer. The 50 Mhz radar was also used to survey the bedrock in the close vicinity of western Svíahnúkur. In relation to the Bárðarbunga unrest and eruption in 2014–2015, a seismometer and a data transmission link was in- stalled during the week at the centre of Bárðarbunga, to seismic stations were installed 10 km S and SE of Bárðarbunga (to collect data during the summer). A permanent automatic gas flux gauge was installed at the geothermal area Saltarinn on Grímsfjall. Investi- gation of gases from open crevasses and large holes (few 1100m wide and ∼100 m deep) on the south flank of Bárðarbunga were continued. JÖKULL No. 67, 2017 87
