nokkuð úr sér, en greinilegt er, að hún
flæðir yfir allstórt svæði í leysingum á
vorin. Þess á milli fýkur úr söndunum í

In mid-August 1971 I collected some sam-
ples of mosses and lichens in the Rangár-
vallasýsla county (Landmannaafréttur) in
southern Iceland. It was not until 1982 that
I got a chance to study the samples I had
collected in 1971. One of the samples was
a lichen I could not identify. It was sent to
Mr. Rolf Santesson in Uppsala, Sweden
who identified it as Lobaria laetevirens
(Lightf.) Zahlbr. (fig. 1). This lichen has
not been found in Iceland before. The
specimen I collected was from a small hil-
lock in the Lambafitjarhraun lava, which
was formed in an eruption north of the
volcano Hekla in 1913. The lichen was
collected from the lower half of the south
face of the hiliock, near the river Hellis-
kvísl.
