Sunrise Lutheran Camp
The camping season of 1950 was in many ways encouraging.
Each summer, as we close camp, those that have attempted to bear
some of the burden of the work, are apt to feel weary and quite
spent. They look back and wonder perhaps, is it worth while?—will
there be any fruit harvested from our labors?—Looking back over
the season just ended I repeat that it was encouraging and beyond
any doubt well worth while.
There were six groups at our camp this summer. We were
very fortunate in being able to obtain splendid leadership with
all groups — the leaders that fitted so well in with each group.
These were Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Fafnis with Leadership Training.
Rev. Eric Sigmar and Harvey Hedley with Senior boys. Mrs. Lauga
Johannesson acted as matron with that group. Junior boys were
under the leadership of Rev. S. Olafsson, assisted by Harvey Hedley.
Mrs. S. Sigurgeirson acting as matron. Junior girls’ group was
directed by Mrs. Sigurgeirson, assisted by Mrs. S. Stefanson for the
first four days. For the remainder of the period Mrs. A. H. Gray
took Mrs. Sigurgeirson’s place and was assisted by Mrs. Stefanson.
The last group, that of Senior girls, was directed by Mrs. H. G.
Henrickson and Mrs. I. W. Hart. With each group there was a
trained nurse, swimming instructor and Junior Leaders, also a
diningroom hostess.
Each group had a public concert at their closing night. All of
which were fairly well attended, although the final night always
seems to draw the largest crowd.
