Yfirlit
I þessum hluta eru birtar töflur um starfandi fólk (16-74
ára). Töfluframsetningin er í 9 undirköflum, þar sem starfandi
fólk er skoðað frá ýmsum hliðum, svo sem með tilliti til
menntunar, hjúskaparstéttar, atvinnustéttar, atvinnugreina,
vinnutíma, aukastarfa og fleira. Hér á eftir verður drepið á
nokkrar athyglisverðustu upplýsingarnar sem fram korna í
kaflanum. Þá verður gerð grein fyrir helstu hugtökum og
aðferðum sem varða töflur í kaflanum.
Starfandi fólki fjölgaði um 19.800 manns 1991-2002 eða
úr 136.900 í 156.700, þar af 18.900 á höfuðborgarsvæðinu.
Milli áranna 2001 og 2002 fækkaði starfandi fólki um
2.300. Árið 2002 var 81% mannfjöldans utan höfuðborgar-
svæðisins í starfi en 79,6% á höfuðborgarsvæðinu.
Á árunum 1991-2002 fjölgaði starfandi fólki mest í
þjónustugreinum, úr 87.400 í 109.200 manns. I iðnaði
Synopsis
This chapter presents tables about the employed (aged 16-
74). The tables are presented in nine subsections which
examine the employed from various angles, such as in
regard to education levels, marital status, employment
status, economic activity, working hours, second job, etc.
The following are some of the highlights in the chapter,
along with an explanation of the principal concepts and
methods relating to the tables in the chapter.
The number of employed increased from 136,900 to
156,700 overthe period 1991-2002, orby 19,800, ofwhom
18,900 were in the capital city region. Between the years
2001 and 2002 there was a decrease of 2,300 in the number
of people at work. Outside the capital city region, 81% of
the population was employed in 2002, compared with
79.6% in the region of the capital.

Eitt af mörgum sérkennum íslensks vinnumarkaðar er
fjöldi þeirra sem sinna fleiri en einu starfi. Alls gegndu
17,2% starfandi fólks fleiri en einu starfi á árinu 2002. Árið
2002 var hlutfall kvenna og karla í aukastarfi svipað eða
16,9% á móti 17,4%. Það er algengara að fólk utan höfuð-
borgarsvæðisins sé í fleiri en einu starfi en fólk innan þess.
Þeir sem gegna aukastörfum unnu á árinu 2002 að jafnaði
12,7 klst. á viku við þau störf.

One of the many distinctive features of the Icelandic
labour market is the number of people holding more than
one job. In all, 17.2% of employed people were in more than
one job in 2002. In 2002 women and men held more than
one job in similar proportions, or 16.9% of the women as
against 17.4% of the men. It is more common for people
outside the capital city area to have more than one job than
those residing within it. On average in 2002, people worked
for 12.7 hours per week in their extra jobs.
