æ. æ (including old œ) usually remains, but is quite
often written e, as in etiad 133, heveskv 1418, venn 151,
meJandi 3810, sekir 708.
(b) in unstressed syllables.
-ij-e. i is the usual form in endings, as in Frackiandi
31 ~2, atti 32, vexti 33, afii 33, þessi 38, but e occurs
quite frequently, as in henne 910, 1415, minne 228, 272,
dæme 2216, herkJæde 523, 533, hJiodfære 647. In the
ending -irl-er -ir is the more common, as in gerir
1316, skyrir 217, sarir 3912, aUir 469, 6710, sparir 483
(11 examples altogether). The form -er is found in
syster 91, trver 142, br(o)der 235, skeJJer 262, stiJJer 478,
sparer 481, vnnder 5310, farer 569. The derivative
endings -Jigr, -Jiga are always written with i, as, for
example, ridarJigvm 38, vndarJiga 52, vndarJigri 56,
heidarJigt 58, keisaratigvm 514.
-uj-o. u is the common form, though a considerable
numher of examples of final o occur: so, for example,
ero 912, 126, 1517, gotonna 1312, storo (in the erroneous
storojstorv) 1412, horpo 1513, 166, voJlo 1718. An ending
-or for the more common -ur is found in milor 162,
onnor 2015, 533.
-urj-r. The development of the glide vowel before in-
flectional -r is not instanced, though a similar type
of glide appears in fagurJigha 152, fostvrJandz 658.
The inverted spelling sogr for sggur 223 may also
suggest that the glide has developed. See also p. XXXII
in this connection.

ð. ð is always written d.
k. Final k in unstressed syllables and words remains
alwaj^s in ok 48, 49, 92 (2x) etc., ek 92, 912, 1218 etc.,
