i. i usually becomes y in forms of the word mykill:
so, mykilli 784, mykill 8016, 836, myldvm 8515, 8818,
but mikinn 8716.
o. o appears in the word son 895, but is raised to u
in hun 839, 9014.
y. y is unrounded to i when followed by ije or j in
the next syllable in such forms as þikir 771, þikiz 772,
þikia 7711, skilldi 795, 799, 8111, but y remains in yf/r
799, 7911, 8121 etc.
(b) in unstressed syllables.
-ij-e. i is invariable finally. In the ending -irj-er -ir
occurs in Allir 8216 allir 859, -er in gerer 8116, fader
8311.
-u\-o. u is tbe common form, though there are many
examples of final o, as klavstrino 791, smidino 793,
Litlo 7919, dyrino 805.
-urf-r. The glide vowel does not develop before in-
flectional -r, but cf. the inverted spelling orrostr for
orrostur 8311. See also p. XXXII inthis connection.
Consonants.
ð. ð is always written d.
k. Final k in unstressed syllables and words is com-
monly weakened to g, as in miog 7914, eg 829, 8211,
833, mig 8317, 9013, but k quite often remains, as in
ek 8212, 834, miok 8317, mik 9012. k is usual in ok, as
8022, 8318, 8415.
t. Final t in unstressed syllables and words commonly
remains as in verit 787, sparat 7814, essit 809, annat
8010, but weakening to ð, spelt d, is sometimes evi-
denced, as in klavstrid 796, sied 8014, ad 8210, portid
9115. The ending of the 2. pl. pres. ind. and the imp.
is usually t, as in fait 768, erut 769, takit 779, but ð,
