farsæld hennar.
Ég þakka yður vinsemd í minn garð, meðan á dvöl rninni hér stóð.
Með mikilli virðingu,

Daniel W. Fiske.
P.S. Koma má bréfum til mín næstu fjóra mánuði um hendur dr. Flugels,

Látið mig vita, ef ég get á nokkurn hátt orðið yður eða einhverjum öðrum
íslendingi að liði.
Blessaðir.
Til Gríms Thomsens skálds
Reykjavík, October 15 - (1879)1
My dear Dr. Thomsen,
The thing I most regret just now - next to leaving Iceland itself — is
to be obliged to depart without seeing you once more. I have hoped,
until to-day, to be able to get to Bessastaðir, but I am forced to give
up the trip. For the first time in my life I have been, in these last
weeks, a good deal ofan invalid, having been obliged, by an obstinate
rheumatism, to keep my bed for a day or two at a time, and being
generally compelled to keep within doors.
If, at any time, I can serve you in America I shall be most happy to
do so. And if there be anything which, in your opinion, I can do for
Iceland or any Icelander, I shall be glad to be told of it. I shall also be
pleased to hear from you, should your avocations permit. I shall not
be altogether without knowledge of the services you render Iceland,
as a legislator and a publicist, for I shall receive ísafold regularly.
With many thanks for your kind words at the banquet of the
Alþingismenn, I have the honor to be
most faithfully yours,
Willard Fiske.
