Ársrit Bandalags lúterskra kvenna 7 dýrmæta sálarfrið sem andlegt samfélag við Guð hefir í för með sér. Og að læra svo loks að segja, með stillingu: „Að þótt ég öðlist eigi, gef ei ég þreytast megi Sem bezt að biðja þig. Þú einn veizt tíma og tíðir, ég treysti því, um síðir Þú bænheyrir og blessir mig“. Guðlaug Jóhannesson The Greatest Thing in the World BY MRS. R. E. EMMETT We have been told that the greatest thing—in the religious world is Faith. But Paul in his Epistle to the Corinthians, 13th chapter, puts Love in the place of Faith. I have taken you—in the chapter just read, to Christianity at its source. And there we have seen the greatest of these is Love. Paul says Love is the fulfilment of the Law—what a noble gift it is! The power of playing on the souls and wills of men, and rousing them to lofty purposes and deeds. Love is not a thing of emotion, it is the rich, strong, vigorous expression of the whole round Christian character. Paul gives us an amazing analysis of this supreme thing called Love, and is made up of nine ingredients, namely: Patience . . . “Love sufferth long”; Kindness . . . “Love is kind”; Génerosity . . . “Love envieth not”; Humility . . . “Love boasteth not, is not puffed up”; Courtesy . . . “Does not behave itself unseemly”; Unselfishness . . . “Seeketh not her own”; Good Temper . . . “Is not easily provoked”; Guilelessness . . . “Thinketh no evil”; Sincerity . . . “Rejoiceth in the truth”. All of these make up the Supreme Gift . . . There is no time to do more than make a passing note upon each of these ingredients. 1. Love Is Palience. This is the normal attitude of Love—not in a hurry. Love suffers long—beareth all things—hopeth all things—Love under- stands and therefore waits.
