central organization. We know that our vision becomes clearer
through that union, our interests become broader. It develops
tolerance and enthusiasm and helps us to realize the strength of
the bond that binds us to our beloved Lutheran church.
As an organization as well as individuals we have our respons-
ibilities in doing our share of the weaving of the national pattern
of Canada. As an organization we have laid out our plan of work
for our youth—the youth of our church in Canada.
For many of us the thoughts turn back to a convention held here
in this church seven years ago, when we stood on the crossroads
and prayed for guidance as to which road to take. If we had dared
to prophesy for the future our prophecy might have been considered
bold and optimistic like that of the Canadian statesman of 112 years
ago. During these seven years some of our dreams have been re-
alized. Many attractive buildings have been erected on a camp
site all our own, and a church camp has been operated there for
five summer seasons. Thus we are attempting to do our share in
influencing a group of girls and boys who in turn will become
leaders and influence many others. We are attempting to assist
them in weaving an orderly and attractive pattern for their future.
We hope to make them better citizens of Canada and of the world
and above all do we hope to make them nobler disciples of our
Lord and Saviour, and more devout members of our church.
We are confident that this work, for which God has allowed us
to lay the foundation, will grow if we prove worthy of the task
allotted to us. It will grow in spite of all our shortcomings and
half-heartedness. Let us remember that we are well equipped for
our task of weaving. Our warp is found in the life-giving strength
given to us. by our spiritual mother, the church. Our woof obtains
its tenacity from the national culture which also is our heritage.
With such warp and woof to work with on the loom supplied
by the strength of our organization, we pray God to guide the hands
of the weavers. May they so weave that the pattern has no wrong
side which does not welcome the scrutiny of critical eyes. May
both sides be made faultless and beautiful, strong and enduring.
Thus we, the Lutheran Women’s League are united in prayer,
steadfast and determined in doing our small share in bringing into
being that better world of which good men dream. We will work
faithfully, in quietness and strength, transmitting our work to
future Canadians. We are confident that time will prove that we
