These Things I Know
This I have learned and learned fully
In the march of the days and the sweep of the years
There’s a Power that guides and sustains us
In tlie hours of gladness and the deep of our tears.
For I have walked in the paths of the flowers
And I know the wind and the hail,
And this I know and know fully
There’s a Power that will not fail.
For every man has an altar and every man has a shrine
And most men have an idol and all men have a sign.
Some make a God of Mammon, some put man on the throne
But everyone worships something or makes a God of his own.
And all men have forgotten sometime and turned their
eyes away
For all men have loved unwisely the fleeting garish day.
And the books are balanced daily in columns of evil and good
For to all men comes a reckoning
And by all men understood.
This 1 have learned and learned fully
And I know in the deep of my heart
That thé spirit of God can speak through me
The spirit which I am a part.
For I have walked beside the still waters
And l’ve been chastened by the rod
And this I know and know fully
The eternal presence of God.
