Report on
Sea Ice off the Icelandic Coasts
Oct. 1964—Sept. 1965
Tlie northern and eastern coasts of Iceland
were blocked by clrift ice from the end of
February into May.
The temperature of the winter months was
below normal with the exception of February
which was unusually mild in spite of the ap-
proaching blockade of sea ice.
Below are quoted tlie monthly means ancl
deviations from normals at the Cape Horn
Lighthouse, Stykkishóimur and Rautarhöfn.

No drift ice reported in Icelandic waters.
J/io Faxi, G.K. 44, 1520 z: An iceberg sight-
ed at 6621/1806. Visible in radar.
8/10 The met. Station Mánárbakki reports
two big ancl several smaller icebergs S and SE
of Grímsey. — An icefloe sighted about one
mile NE of Lundey. The next evening it was
1.5—2 miles off the entrance to the harbour of
Húsavík evidiently drifting west.
i°/io From Siglunes Radio 1845 z: A strand-
ed iceberg sighted at 6625/1745, ab. one mile
NW of Flatey. It was still at the same place on
Oct. 16.
18/io Mánárbakki 1815 z: Two icebergs sight-
ed 5—6 miles west of Mánáreyjar drifting east.
The next day at 0900 z the icebergs were seen
three miles east of the islands.
NOVEMBER 1964
No drift ice reported in Icelandic waters.
7/n Via Siglufjardar radio 1348 z: An ice-
berg on the sailing route 55° true 18.5 miles
off Drahgaskörd. At 1510 z the same berg was
observed driiting ab. 6611/2106.
8/ii A big iceberg observed at 6637/1934 and
n/u probably the same berg was sighted at
6628/2040.
