A being here the original, a Worm’s copy. According to this
genealogy a reading found in 1850 and in one of the other manu-
scripts will in all probability have been found in A, and should
therefore be included in the text. Deviations from this rule have
only been made in the following three cases where it may be possible
that the same error may have been made in two manuscripts in-
dependently of each other or that a deliberate correction of an error
in the original has been made in a manuscript: 2626 has the correct
nunqvam in 162 and 913, but the error unqvam in 161 and 1850;
2916 has the better reading imo after 913, while 16 and 1850 have
uno; 3034 has the correct reading singulis taken from 913, while 16
and 1850 have the erroneous singularis.
The apparatus of variants claims to be exhaustive for 913, while
a number of unimportant graphic variants and misscripts which are
only found in 1850 have been left out. As examples of variants that
have been omitted may be mentioned: 2313 Olai] Olaffi; 2428
Øster-] Oster-; 2430 in censum] inscensum; 2 512 obvertitur] obver-
tatur; 2 622 conspici] conspicui; and a number of similar mistakes
and inaccuracies. On the other hånd, all real variants have been
included.
The present Edition.
The two treatises are issued literatim with the following limita-
tions:
1) The use of Capital letters has been normalised, because in
both treatises, but especially in HR, capitals are not used with any
consistency, just as the individual copies of HR differ from each
other in this respect.
2) The punctuation is made more consistent with modem usage,
though strict consistency has not been aimed at. Especially in HR
semicolon often occurs in a way disturbing to the meaning to the
modern reader; in such cases it has been replaced by a comma. Colon
after abbreviations has been replaced by a full stop.
