Dear Dr. Grírnur Thomsen,
It is very good ofyou to remember me, after all these years, and to
send me such a precious gift as your new collection of poems. As one
interested in Italian letters I have perused with delight the charm-
ingly conceived “Dante”, and I have admired the closeness with
which you have rendered Byron’s “Isles ofGreece”. But ofwonderful
value seem to me the versions from the Greek. Nothing that I have
seen in other parts of the world so much resembles the view the
passing-traveller gets of Iceland, as the sight of the Greek isles, and I
think that there is not a little akin in the characters of the ancient
Greeks and the old Icelanders. You have demonstrated how accu-
