GJÓSKUKORNA FRÁ REYKJANESI
í upphafi ræðst lögun gjóskukorna af sprengi-
virkni í eldstöð, efnasamsetningu og eðliseiginleikum
kvikunnar. Gjóskukom geta síðan mótast að nokkru
leyti við flutning frá eldstöð, svo sem í gusthlaupum.
Með tölvuvæddri myndgreiningu er fljótlegt að mæla
tvívíð formeinkenni gjóskukorna. Mikilvægt er að
kanna lögun gjósku í mismunandi eldstöðvum, til að
geta skilgreint helstu gjóskugerðir, og við mismun-
andi ytri aðstæður, þannig að unnt sé að meta hvort
gjóskan er endurflutt eða liggur þar sem hún settist til
í upphafi.
Reykjanes var valið til athugana á lögun gjósku-
koma vegna þess að undanfarin ár hefur farið fram
ítarleg athugun á gjóskumyndunum sem hlaðist hafa
