SUMMARY
Two grass species, Phleum pratense (vallarfoxgras) and Poa pratensis
(vallarsveifgras), were observed with respect to the effect of environ-
mental temperature on the maturity.
At the Hvanneyri Experiment Station, the mean temperature (°C)
in May-June was correlated with the date of head emergence of Phleum
pratense, where the mean May temperature was correlated with date
of head emergence of Poa pratensis. Results can be seen on fig. (mynd)
1 and 2.
From the Hvanneyri results, tlie heading dates for these species were
predicted, using the 193 f to 1960 Weather Bureau temperature record-
ings on 44 locations in Iceland (see results on fig. 3 and 4).
