increase in heart rate of 30% ±14.1. The calculated total periferal resist-
ance decreased 42% ±9.8.
The litterature is reviewed briefly and it is concluded that diazoxide,
when administered intravenously, is an excellent drug in the treatment of
acute hypertension.
Its advantages include an immediate onset of action, lack of drug
resistance, few side effects and an increase in cardiac output which
decreases the danger of hypotension and vascular collapse secondary to
a marked decrease in vascular resistance.
