eous pear shaped shadow in apposition with
the fundus of the bladder in a ntid-line sagittal
section. If air is present within the vagina its
walls are well seen in addition to the anterior
and posterior fornices. An excellent display of
the hip joints is provided in transverse secti-
ons through the lower pelvis (Fig. 13). As with
CT the diagnosis of structural lesions will
depend on alteration in the normal size and
contour of an organ or on the demonstration
of a density difference from surrounding
normal tissue. The great hope has been
expressed that with the wide range of imaging
options available there is the potential for
identifying sequence related contrast patterns
which will allow, if not a precise diagnosis,
then important pathological distinctions to be
made. ln this regard the separation of abscess
