9. Non-response
Brottfallinu í neyslukönnuninni má skipta í femt: Heimili
sem neituðu þátttöku, heimili sem ekki náðist í, heimili sem
ekki luku þátttöku og heimili sem skiluðu ófullnægjandi
gögnum. Algengast var að heimili neituðu, 75,4%, eða lykju
ekki þátttöku, 17,5%. I 16. yfirliti sést hvemig brottfallið
skiptist.
Til að fá betri hugmynd um þá sem vildu ekki taka þátt í
neyslukönnuninni voru þeir beðnir að svara nokkrum
spumingumumheimilishagi sína. Þetta vom sömu spumingar
og lagðar voru fyrir þá sem samþykktu að taka þátt í
könnuninni. Alls svöruðu 2.396 heimili af 2.707 þessum
spumingum eða 88,5%. Því ætti að fást allgóð mynd af
skiptingu brottfallsins. Hér á eftir er einungis miðað við þau
2.396 heimili sem svömðu spumingum um heimilishagi
sína. 117. yfirliti sést hvemig þessi heimili skiptast.
Non-response in the household budget survey may be di-
vided into four categories: those refusing to take part, those
who could not be contacted, those who did not complete the
survey and those who submitted inadequate data. The most
common reasons for.non-response were refusal 75.4% and
failure to complete the survey 17.5%. Summary 16 shows a
breakdown of non-response.
In order to give a better idea of those who refused to take
part in the survey, they were asked about their household
background like those who had agreed to participate. A total
of 2,396 households out of 2,707 answered these questions,
or 88.5%, so that a fairly clear picture of the breakdown of the
non-response was available. The following discussion is
only based on the 2,396 households which answered ques-
tions on their background. Summary 17 shows a breakdown
of these households.

9.1 Sundurliðun brottfalls
118. yfirliti erþeim 2.396 heimilum sem svömðu spurningum
um heimilishagi sína í neyslukönnun 1995 skipt eftir búsetu,
heimilisgerð, heimilisstærð, menntun, starfi, atvinnugrein og
ráðstöfunartekjum.
Ekki var munur á brottfalli eftir búsetu. Heimili á höfuð-
borgarsvæðinu neituðu þó frekar þátttöku en heimili utan
þess. Heimili utan höfuðborgarsvæðis luku síður þátttöku
þannig að endanleg svörun varð sú sama.
Greinilegur munur kom fram á brottfalli eftir heimilisgerð
ogheimilisstærð.Brottfallvarminnsthjáhjónumogsambýlis-
fólki með böm og næstminnst hjá einstæðum foreldrum.
Mest var brottfallið hj á einhleypum. Hlutfall neitana var hæst
9.1 Analysis of non-response
Summary 18 divides the 2,396 households which answered
questions on household background in the 1995 HBS on the
basis of residence, type of household, size of household,
education, occupation and economic activity.
No difference was shown in non-response according to
residence. However, households in the capital area showed a
greater tendency to refuse to participate than those outside.
Fewer households outside the capital area tended to complete
the survey, however, making the final level of non-response
the same.
A clear difference in response levels emerged according to
household type and size. Non-response was noticeably low
