NÁTTÚRUFRÆÐINGURINN 17 America (the Giant Bark Aphid) and closely related to L. liquidambara Taka- hashi from Formosa. Tliis preliminary report illustrates the following plant and insect taxa: Plants: Alnus sp., Belula sp., Corylus sp., Fagus sp., Pterocarya sp., Acer cf. tricuspidatum Bronn,? Plalanus sp., Insects: Longistigma caryae Harris (Homoptera: Aphidoidea) and Bibionidae sp. (Diptera). The geology of the Mókollsdalur site is still not completely known. It may be related to an old caldera which seems to be found in the central Kollafjörð- ur area or to the Króksfjörður central volcano. Tliese relationships are currently under study. The Mókollsdalur locality is probably late Miocene or earliest Pliocene. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The authors are indebted to the Carlsberg Foundation, Copenhagen, for the financial support. Walter L.
