Fig. 3 indicates the increase
in the number of Finnish doc-
tors as compared with the pop-
ulation.
Notwithstanding tliat the
number of doctors in Finland
is still on the low side, it lias
nevertheless grown extremely
rapidly, Its growth up to 1930
was slow, hut since tlien it has
quickly accelerated. Indeed, the
number has increased threefold
since 1930. However, since the
population over the same period
lias also increased substantially,
the number of physicians has
onljr doubled in relation to the
size of the population.
At the present time, three
medical faculties exist in Fin-
land: in Helsinki, Turku and
Oulu. The Helsinki faculty ac-
cepts 180 new students annual-
ly, Turku 80 and Oulu 50. In
addition, more tlian 200 Finnish
medical undergraduates are
studying abroad -— in Switzer-
land, Denmark, England, Hol-
land and West Germany. Stu-
