Verslunarskýrslur 1983
álfélagið hefur ekki um nokkurra ára skeið flutt inn svo nefndar „verktaka-
vörur“, sem um er rætt á bls. 28* í Verslunarskýrslum 1981. — Innflutningur til
þessa fyrirtækis á árinu 1983 nam alls 1 483,2 millj. kr. í því voru svo að segja
engar fjárfestingarvörur.
Ríkisstjórnin gerði á árinu 1975 samning við bandaríska fyrirtækið Union
Carbide Corporation um stofnun hlutafélags til byggingar og rekstrar járn-
blendiverksmiðju á Grundartanga í Skilmannahreppi í Borgarfjarðarsýslu, sbr.
lög nr. 10 26. apríl 1975. Voru á því ári hafnar framkvæmdir til undirbúnings
mannvirkjagerð á Grundartanga, en með samningi 9. júlí 1976 gekk bandaríska
fyrirtækið úr Járnblendifélaginu og framseldi hlutabréf sín í því til ríkisstjórnar-
innar. Var þá framkvæmdum hætt í bili. Jafnframt fóru fram viðræður við
Elkem—Spigerverket A/S í Osló, og leiddu þær til samningsgerðar — sem þó
var ekki endanleg — hinn 8. desember 1976. Gerðist þetta fyrirtæki hluthafi í
íslenska járnblendifélaginu h.f., með 45% hlutafjáreign, á móti 55% hlutafjár-
eign ríkissjóðs. Sett voru ný lög, nr. 18 11. maí 1977, um járnblendiverksmiðju í
Hvalfirði, og um leið var gengið endanlega frá samningi við hinn norska
meðeiganda. Vinna til byggingar mannvirkja á Grundartanga hófst aftur síðla
árs 1976. Fyrri ofn verksmiðjunnar var tekinn í notkun í apríl 1979. Fyrsti
útflutningur á kísiljárni átti sér stað í júlí 1979, til Vestur-Þýskalands. Síðari ofn
verksmiðjunnar var tekinn til starfrækslu í september 1980. Árleg framleiðslu-
