54 ISLENZKAR LANDBÚNAÐARRANNSÓKNIR ÍSLENSKT YFIRLIT Smitun Lúpínu (Lupinus Nootkatensis Donn) með niðurnámsbakteríum á Islandi. Guðni Harðarson °g D. Gareth Jones Deþartmmt of Agricullural Botanji, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth SY23 3DD. Smitun lúpínu með niturnámsbakteríum var reynd í jarðræktartilraun í Keldna- holti, Gunnarsholti og á Skógarsandi, eftir að virkni nokkurra bakteríustofna við nit- ur (könnunarefnis) nám haíði verið reynd í ræktunarklefa í Wales. Stofn 3211 frá Rothamsted í Englandi reyndist virkastur við niturnám við 12°C hita í ræktunarklefa. Sami stofn myndaði einnig flest rótarhnýði og var virkastur við niturnám í jarðræktartilraunum á Islandi. Uppskera plantna í tilraunareitum smit- uðum með besta stofninum (3211) var u. þ. b. þrisvar sinnum meiri, eftir þriggja mánaða ræktun, heldur en í reitum þar sem ekki var smitað. Er því augljóst mikil- vægi smitunar lúpínufræs með virkum niturnámsbakteríum fyrir sáningu. Niðurstöður tilraunanna eru ræddar svo og hugsanleg notkun lúpínu við upp- græðslu. Gadgil, R.
