interruptus ancl Cheyletus eruditus are their
predators.
The above species are, according to
their numbers and frequencies, the most
prominent members of the hay mite com-
munity, while those from the low fre-
quency group (table 2, 6—19) are ac-
cidental memers. Thus the species of
Cryptostigmata spp., Bryobia praetiosa,
Tyrophagus similis, Eriophyidae sp., Steneo-
tarsonemus sp. Stigmaeus sp. and Pygmephorus
islandicus are carried from the home hay-
field and hardly multiply in stored hay.
Suidasia sp. has been found in stored pro-
ducts (Hughes 1976), mainly in products
with a high protein content. Phorytocarpais
fimetorum (det. Athias-Henriot), Andro-
laelaps casalis, Haemogamasus pontiger and
Digamasellus presepum are predators of ac-
arid mites while Ctenoglyphus plumiger and
Kleemannia plumigera are fungivorous.
Other animals of stored hay
Collembola are normally confmed to sur-
faces with a stable humidity similar to that
of the soil and appear to be að contamina-
tion from the soil underneath the hay
stores.
Book lice (Psocoptera) were absent in
all samples.
