Deaths from tuberculosis may be classified as follo'ws (last year’s
figures in round brackets): Pulmonary tuberculosis 119 (100), uni-
versal tuberculosis 6 (7), scrophulosis 1 (0), tuberculosis of bones
and joints 3 (6), meningeal tubercidosis 23 (27), abdominal tuber-
culosis 4 (3), tuberculosis of the urinary and generative organs 1
(3), other organs 0 (3).
The number of deaths from tuberculosis is slightly higher than last
year, which is not to be wondered at, considering the fact that an
epidemic of measles ran through the country in 1936 and an epidemic
of whooping-cough in the year before. There is every reason to hope,
that the steady decrease of tuberculosis will continue, in spite of this
temporary increase. The number of deaths from ineningeal tuberculosis
was lower than usual, 14,6% of the total numher of deaths from tuber-
culosis. For many years it was 20—25%.
7. Leprosy. The numher of patients has been constantly decreasing
in previous years, until in the preceding year 3 new patients turned
up, or rather three old cases were discovered. This year leprosy patients
again decrease in number, their total heing the lowest on record.
