SUMMAR Y Ladybirds (Coccinella septempunctata L., Coleoptera) reach Iceland during massive irruption in Europe by Erling Ólafsson, Zoological Institute, Helgonavágen 3, 223 62 Lund, Sweden The ladybird species Coccinella seplem- pu?ictata L. is not native to Iceland, but is not uncommonly carried to tbe country by ships and with freight. Usually only single specimens are found at a time. It was therefore surprising, when the species appeared in great numbers at Reykjavík harbour, SW-Iceland, at the end ol July 1976. This unusually iarge number of ladybirds reached Iceland, obviously as a result of the massive irruption of this species in NW-Europe during the drought summer 1976. 138
