Kristinn K. Olafson was born in Gardar, Pembina County,
North Dakota, on September 28, 1880. His parents had come to
North Dakota from Iceland in 1873. Pastor Olafson was the youngest
of a family of seven children.
In preparation for his Life Service, Pastor Olafson attended
the public schools in North Dakota, after which he attended Luther
College, Decorah, Iowa, and was graduated with highest honors in
1900. He received his Theological training in Chicago Lutheran
Theological Seminary and was graduated in 1904. He also did
graduate work at the University of Chicago.
Pastor Olafson was ordained a Minister of the Gospel in the
First Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on June 26,
1904, after which he served his Lord and His Church in active
ministry for fifty-six years. During these years he served in the
Parish Ministry in:—

In addition to his ministry in these parishes, Pastor Olafson
had served as President of the Icelandic Synod for twenty years;
Honorary President of the Icelandic Synod since 1943; Instructor
in Pacific Seminary; Executive Secretary of the Social Mission
Committee of the Pacific Synod; President of the Northern Con-
ference and member of the Executive Board of the Illinois Synod;
Chairman of the Social Action Division of the Social Mission Com-
mittee of the Illinois Synod.
