prayed for. It is the unseen bond that holds a society together, for
if it does not exist that society will not last for long. I would like
to quote one little stanza from Edna Jacques’ poem, “The Ladies
Aid”:
“I sometimes think that in this atmosphere
Of friendliness—we touch the shining hem
Of the great inner meaning of the word
To “love thy neighbor”—and in serving them
The common place is touched by the Divine,
And cake and tea becomes His bread and wine.”
And I think if our dear Mrs. B. B. Jonsson, who lighted that
first candle of our society, and remained our guiding light through-
out the years; and Lily Davies, and Nia Bardal and the other dear
friends who have gone on ahead, were here with us tonight and
could speak, they would say, “Well done and thank you.”
Let us therefore hold high the banner and take for our motto
the words “Be Kind.”
So many gods, so many creeds
So many paths that wend and wind,
When but the art of being kind
Is all this sad world needs.”
And to the women who have so ably led and guided our society
for the past 25 years, we owe a debt of gratitude. An to them we
would say, “Thank you so much!” They are our past presidents,
whose names here follow:
Lily Davies (deceased), Kathryn Olson, Nia Bardal (deceased),
Ninna Felsted, Anna Snidal, Helga Guttormsson, Fjola Gray,
Gudrun Blondal, Christine Jonasson, Louise Gudmunds, Anna
Finnson, Lilia Eylands, Frida Jonasson, Lina Goodman, Sarah
Sigurdson.
