"Ardis" Report

Madame President:
I am very happy to join in the welcome to the delegates and
guests at our convention. I hope you will enjoy being with us.
It is my privilege to read the Financial Report of the Year Book
“Ardis”, 1955 Edition.

There is not much to report besides the financial matter you
have just heard. The work went on in much the same way as in
previous years. Seven hundred copies were printed. While the
sales are somewhat less than usual, the final outcome is encourag-
ing. We hope for brisker selling in 1956, and that the publication be
managed earlier. A drawback is that the magazine usually comes
out too late. Subscribers lose interest when winter sets in with all
its hardships. We are very anxious that all material be ready by
June 15th. The advertising campaign is almost complete, and I
know the editors have been busy with their part of the work.
Regarding sales: At the last convention, a few of our Ladies
Aids complied with our request to order as many copies as they
expected to be able to sell, according to number of members, and
paid for them in advance out of the funds. This promoted sales, as
most members felt it their duty to buy a copy. It would be well if
more of the Ladies Aids took up this plan. It would make things
easier all around.
I cannot emphasize too strongly that each Ladies Aid member
should own and read ARDIS. We are all members of the “Lutheran
Women’s League”. We could not keep posted if it were not for the
magazine that reports its activities each year, besides containing a
lot of other good reading matter. This sounds like salesmanship
talk, but to sell 700 copies takes salesmanship.
The 1956 “Ardis” will be the 24th edition. As far as I know, it
is the only magazine published by Icelandic women in this country.
I have no doubt that the 1956 edition will be interesting and a
credit to the editors.
