the form búna is often found in colloquial SI as a contraction form of
the B-perfect (ég er) biíin(n) að ‘I have’ and even (þeir eru) búnir að
They(m.pL) have’ and (þœr eru) búitar að ‘They(f.pL) have’ has
undoubtedly contributed to the “misanalysis” involved in the devel-
opment. However, the persistence of the form búna for all persons and
genders as well as the total loss of the auxiliary in all tenses is partic-
ular to PI. In addition, the semantic-functional changes are an intemal
development in PI and not stimulated by parallel modifícations in SI.
