At tliis point I must refer to
certain problems which face us
of ever increasing specializa-
tion.
The vast mass of knowledge
associated with even a single
disease process, the liighly com-
plex and precision methods of
diagnosis and treatment, and the
minimal margin of safety of
manyof these are importantfac-
tors leading to the cult of special-
ization. Prolonged training and
great experience are regarded
as essential for those who would
employ these metliods or thera-
peutic agents. Hospital staff
liave come to seek profound
knowledge on a narrow front
and the older broadly experi-
