SUMMARY
The results of a survey of 51 femoral shaft fractures
treated by intramedullary Kiintscher-nailing between
1972 and 1982 are presented.
Half of the patients were injured in motorcycle
accidents and almost two-thirds had associated injuries.
The overall results were excellent or good in 90% of the
patients and complications were few.
Because of the serious nature of the injury and
complications arising from recumbency, early operation
is recommended, closed intramedullary nailing being the
procedure og choice.
