within the study area enumerated from north
to south: 1) At Saudárkrókur, 2) near the
Reynistadur farm (Fig. 8), and 3) the Vind-
heimamelar delta (Fig. 9). In connection with
these deltas several indications of glacier
calving during the recession period have been
found. These deltas are all formed at a sea
level about 45 m higher than the present one.
This indicates that they are not syncronous.
Isostatic rise of the land seems to have kept
pace with the eustatic rise of the sea level as
the receding ice front moved southwards. The
other highest lying marine features (shorelines
and terraces) lie between 43 m and 48 m
altitude. Each shoreline could only be traced
over a few hundred meters, and no general
trend of slope was observed.
The delta at Saudárkrókur is the greatest in
the area. The delta surface is sloping 13—16
m/km from approximately 60 m at the mouth
of the Gönguskardsá valley to a sharp terrace
edge at 40—50 m altitude. Outcrops in the
lower part of the terrace show either
horizontally layered sand, silt and silty clay or
bouldery iceberg till. This zone reaches up to

The deposit to the east of Flugumýri is
assumed to represent remnants of a lateral
moraine.
