A stereo-pair of an oblique aerial view of the Bárd-
arbunga central volcano in the north-western part of
the Vatnajökull icecap in South-East Iceland. View
towards southeast.
The terminal and lateral moraines seem to have a
much greater mass than usually is seen in similar
circumstances, possibly because of a nearby volcanic
eruption, the location of which is unknown.
Apparently the top surface of the glacier is concave
indicating a caldera underneath the ice. The outlet is
to the east where the crevasses are slightly more dis-
cernable than elsewhere around the rim of the caldera.
The Bárdarbunga central volcano and vicinity has had
a marked rise in seismic activity in the last fouryears.
In the background there are the Grímsvötn caldera and
the ice cauldrons of the Skaftá river jökulhlaups from
1977.

sem ódýrastan og einfaldastan máta. Ekki þarf
önnur hjálpartæki en venjulegan handspegil,
sem haldið er lóðrétt milli myndanna þétt við
andlitið, (sjá skýringarmynd) til að sjá megi
landslagið í þrívídd. Speglinum skal hagrætt
þannig, að vinstri myndin, sem horft er á með
vinstra auganu, falli saman við hægri mynd-
ina, sem sést í speglinum.
The stereopair is to be observed with a vertical mirror
heldclose to the face. Adjust the mirror so that the left
picture, viewed with the left eye, coincides with the
mirror image óf the right picture, viewed with the
right eye.
