fire is burning and finds the dragon’s bed with much
gold and three fully-grown young, which he kills. After-
wards he takes as much gold as he desires and retires to
his tent, accompanied by the lion, who is inseparable from
him for the rest of its life. After waiting there some days
and healing the lion, he goes on towards the sea.
14. One evening Vilhjálmr emerges from the forest near
the Straits of Gibraltar (Njgrfasund), where he sees a fair
harbour and fifteen splendid ships with golden weather-
cocks and on land a tent of precious stuff. He dis-
