the ground. The elephant, however, does not surrender.
It turns against the lion and casts it up in the air with the
help of the teeth in its lower jaw—it has, of course, lost
the teeth in the upper jaw. The horse comes up and kicks
the elephant with its hind-legs so that it totters and at
last Vilhjálmr manages to kill it with his jousting-lance.
After this he lies down to sleep and the next morning he
carves up the elephant’s carcase. Some of its bones he lays
out to bleach but its teeth he takes with him. Thus he
rides out of the forest and comes on the fifth day following
to Trekt, where he spends some days.
