The two creatures hop along with the aid of a pole and
everything that lies in their path is killed beneath them.
When it catches sight of them, the lion shakes itself and,
roaring angrily, springs at one of them. The ereature hops
with the aid of its pole up over the lion but since the lion
at the same instant manages to break the pole with one
blow of its tail, the one-footed creature falls down in the
middle of its hop and is torn to pieces by the lion. Vilhjálmr
attacks the second of the two one-footed creatures with
his tilting-lance but it is as though he is striking at a
rock so he seizes his sword and with it chops the creature’s
pole and its one hand in two. After this it begs mercy. In
