impregnable. He and “Sóley” ride out to the castle,
accompanied by twelve slaves whom he has let into the
secret. In the morning the king comes to his daughter’s
house. By that time she has disappeared and the king
hears what has happened; how Kolr has killed Úlfr, got
the attendants with child and carried off his daughter.
He is enraged at this. Kolr is banished from the land and
a price put on his head. When Kolr learns this, he settles
in the forest and runs out from time to time to the
settlement to steal cattle and kill men. He becomes,
therefore, very unpopular. He makes sacrifices to a sow
which is so destructive that it kills both men and cattle
and ruins the fields for the king and others. In the course
of time many attempts are made to render Kolr harmless
