him a finger-ring and asks whether he can remember
where he last saw it. He replies that he would be able to
recognise that hand and the eyes as well. Silven then
shows him her foster-daughter’s right hand and he can see
the marks of his fingers there. He tells that he found a
gold-adorned shoe at the nearby pond and asks Sóley if
she can remember what she said on the occasion when she
first missed the shoe. Sóley blushes at this but Silven says
to her that there is no reason to do so and reminds her
that she has said that the woman who was married to
