Partaloppubók does not keep close enough to its
source for this to be identified but it agrees with A2
at the following places: 4:30, 4:105, 5:30 (Marhold),
6:60-61, 7:73, 9:102, and with A5 at: 9:69, 9:132-34
(cf. above, p. lxxi), 10:81. There is, however, at least
one *Ab-reading: corresponding to A1-2 4:59 ein hvila,
Partaloppubók has seng giort af Effelben.
3. A MS derived from A3
Partal. in Add. 4860, like Hrólfs saga kraka in the
same MS, would seem to be copied from A3, see D.
Slay, The Manuscripts of Hrólfs Saga Kraka, BiblAM
XXIV (1960), pp. 75-78. The text, however, has
been revised. At several points reference has been
made to an A2-MS and the wording has often been
arbitrarily changed. That more than one exemplar
has been used is apparently indicated at 3:2 Fransj
Saxlande (sumer ségia þad hafe vered í Fracklandi)
4860; no known MS has the reading Saxlandi at this
point, however, (but it occurs in chapter 2).
1. 4860 contains the variants peculiar to A3 (see pp.
lxxv f.) with the exception of 3:22 (rende hann 4860)
4:125, 5:9 and 16:9, all of which consist of the
omission of single words which the scribe could have
supplied on his own initiative or by reference to his
A2-exemplar (cf. below). Particular significance must
be attached to the fact that 4860 shares the A3-
reading uesœla hel 11:19.
2. An A2-exemplar has been used intermittently.
Examples of A2-readings in 4860 are: 2:12 prettumm}
