Now it is to be told about that, that Hlodver, king of the
Franks, went to Medalheim5 in his country one day with
a large party, because he was a great hunter, and Partalopi,
his son, went with him. Now it happened, when they were
pursuing the animals, that they separated in the forest.
Then Partalopi saw a large stag running at him, and it
acted as if it wanted to tease him. He put an arrow to his
string and intended to shoot the stag, but it ran away so
that he did not hit it. After that he rode after it and thought
he would then shoot it, but it escaped so that he did not
catch it. He (It?) was however always near it (him?). Now
he rushed after it into the dense forest, until he now could
reach no one who had come with him from home and was
now alone and did not know where he should turn.
