Sigrún Ólöf Einarsdóttir and Seren S. Larsen founded their glass-blowing
Glass in
Bergvík
studio GLER í BERGVÍK in1982. This was the first
and still is the only of its kind in lceland.
The studio is located in Kjalarnes, approximately 30
km. North of Reykjavík, between the mountain Esja and
the sea.
Both studied in “Skolen for Brugskunst” (now Denmark
Designskole) in Copenhagen, Soren as a ceramic
designer and Sigrún as a glass designer. Soren taught
at the school for 9 years.
Sigrún and Soren produce art and utility objects, both
blown and using various methods of kiln work. They
have exhibited their work in many counties, received
numerous credits for their work, which is owned by
many galleries. For additional information, contact their
website:

ARTIKA - design and production by Sigrún and
Sören.
The glass series was designed in 2000 and the first
edition was produced for the lcelandic Embassy in
Brussels. Those glasses were somewhat colourful, with
white, red and blue specks on a mat background. The
edition chosen for the Embassy in Japan - and which
was also made for the embassy of lceland in Ottawa,
Canada - was more calm; white specks on a matt
base.
At the opening of the embassy in Tokyo, a cousin of
Emperor Takamado was so taken by the Artika glasses
that he asked the ambassador for assistance in buying
the glasses and two sizes were especially made for
him. ■
The series can now be bought in lceland - in a still
new edition - red, blue, bone white and violet specks
on a celadon base. There are nine sizes/types in the
series.
Soren Staunsager Larsen
minning
in memoriam
Á meðan greinin hér að ofan beið
birtingar lést Soren Staunsager
Larsen í bílslysi. Fyrir um tuttugu
árum kynntist sá sem þetta ritar
þeim hjónum Sigrúnu og Soren og
það var mikið ánægjuefni að sjá
hvernig fyrirtæki Þeirra í Bergvík á
Kjalarnesi óx og dafnaði.
Soren lærði keramik við
Kunsthándværkerskolen í
Kaupmannahöfn í Danmörku og
kenndi bæði við Skolen for
Brugstkunst og keramikdeild
Myndlista- og handíðaskóla íslands.
Frá árinu 1982 rak hann glerblást-
ursverkstæðið Gler í Bergvík ásamt
Sigrúnu Ó. Einarsdóttur, konu sinni.
Soren sýndí verk sín víða um heim
og verk hans eru í eigu margra
safna bæði hér á landi og erlendis.
Við sem ennþá erum hérna megin
við móðuna miklu þökkum mikil-
vægt framlag hans til hönnunar og
listsköpunar.

While the above article was waiting
to be published, Soren Staunsager
Larsen died in a tragic traffic acci-
dent. Some twenty years ago I met
Soren and his wife Sigrún and it
was a pleasure to see hoe their
workshop in Bergvík, Kjalarnes grew
and prospered.
Soren studied ceramics at the
Kunsthándværkerskole in
Copenhagen, Denmark and taught
both at Skolen for Brugstkunst and
the Department of Ceramics at
Myndlista- og handíðaskóli íslands.
From the year 1982 he ran the
glassblowing workshop, Gler í
Bergvík with his wife, Sigrúnu Ó.
Einarsdóttur. Soren exhibited his
work in many countries abroad and
objects by him were bought by
many museums both in lceland and
abroad.
We, who are left behind, thank him
for his valuable contribution to the
world of art and design.
