Report of Lutheran Women's League
of Manitoba (lcelandic) 1956

Mr. President, Distinguished Guests, Delegates and Visitors:
It is my privilege to present the report of the Lutheran Women’s
League of Manitoba (Icelandic).
The League has just closed its 32nd Convention which was
held in the First Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on June lst,
2nd and 3rd.
The Womens Association of the newly organized congregation
of St. Stephens Church, Silver Heights, St. James, Manitoba, ap-
plied for membership in the League. They were welcomed with
joy and their delegates signed the pledge of the League . . . there
are now 27 womens organizations members of the League, repre-
sented by 36 delegates at the Convention.
The League has three major projects ... (1) Sunrise Lutheran
Camp; (2) Sunday School or Youth instruction in the Inter-lake
districts; (3) Ardis.
The CAMP . . . To those who are perhaps not familiar with
this our major project, I say, that this Camp is situated on an
historic spot on the shores of Lake Winnipeg on 12 acres of land.
I say “historic” for it was on this Beach that the founders of the
New Iceland Colony landed after a voyage down the Red River
from Winnipeg in 1876. The aim and endeavour of the Camp in-
structors is to assist the young people in their charge toward
physical fitness, to encourage spiritual development and temper-
ance; to guide them into church activities and ultimately Leader-
ship. Here the young people form friendships that we hope and
pray may last a lifetime . . . here they receive inspiration to go
forth to do their duty as good citizens, working steadfastly and
nnceasingly for the building of a definite Christian way of life.
