the Synod at the 900th Anniversary of the establishment of the
Bishopric of SKÁHOLT, which for almost 730 years was the chief
seat of learning and culture in Iceland.
The reports of the secretary and treasurer are becoming
lengthy and complex . . . that is as it should be as we advance.
REPORTS: Betel Committee; Publications; Evangelism; Mis-
sions and Vacant Fields; Lutheran World Action; The Temperance
Alliance report by Mrs. A. S. Bardal; Parish Worker’s report by
Mrs. Laufey Olson, Mrs. Olson is the widow of a former pastor of
the Synod, Rev. Carl J. Olson; The Lutheran Women’s League
of Manitoba report by Mrs. B. S. Benson; Synodical Committee
report on Youth Education work by Mrs. B. Bjarnarson; The
Stewardship report by Pastor S. T. Guttormson and Laymen’s
remarks by Mr. Halfdan Thorlakson were powerful and gave us
all much food for thought.
The Youth Night program was most interesting . . . we recall
with pride the address of a young man from the First Lutheran
Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dennis Eyolfson, who announced
his intention of studying for the ministry. Dennis is very young
but shows splendid leadership qualities. We wish him health and
steadfast purpose in this his chosen work.
The address by Dr. John Futch, President of Rocky Mountain
Synod on “Whole Program of Whole Church” was instructive and
inspiring.
Music provided by the choir of the church and solos rendered
by Mrs. Margaret Sigmar Davidson, Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Winnipeg,
and a boy soprano, John Henrickson were very much appreciated.
We left for our homes thankful in the knowledge that we have
been given, even a small part in this important work of The United
Lutheran Church in America of which our Synod is a member.
Mrs. G. J. (Christine) Johnson was busy taking pictures of
places and people during the western visit . . . she gave a showing
of these slides and many others, in the lower Auditorium of the
church . . . the proceeds of this entertainment she presented to the
choir of the Vancouver Church.
